After Vogue editor, Alexandra Shulman, received a Master of Arts from UCA (University for the Creative Arts) in June, a university degree has become the season’s latest fashion must-have.
Adding a bit of glamour to the graduation season, the “Pirates of the Carribean” star, Orlando Bloom, and the “Sex and the City” actress, Kim Cattrall, both collected honorary degrees this week for their contributions to the arts.
The usually fashion-forward duo donned traditional robes and mortar boards to collect their awards: Cattrall in the Prussian blue of John Moore’s University of Liverpool, and Bloom, who was watched by his new fiancĂ© Miranda Kerr, in the pillar-box red worn at the University of Kent.
It’s not the academic gown’s first foray into fashion, however; last year, the British designer, Dame Vivienne Westwood, overhauled the academic dress of King’s College, London, designing a striking range of 20 colourful capes and hoods.
